Her story “Unheard but Unafraid: the Story of the San Antonio 4” for NPR’s Latino USA won the Third Place National Headliner award, telling the story of four gay women wrongfully convicted and imprisoned of sexual assault of a minor in an era of intense homophobia. Julia’s reporting has covered everything from a Mexican video gamer to abortion access in Ohio, from the food history of Mark Twain to the use of blackface in Latin American comedy. One of her current projects is starting a new podcast for Asian American stories, Self Evident, that will debut in 2019.
